A Global Celebration of Women's Achievements!

Today is International Women's Day and it’s a day to celebrate the achievements of women. Every year, millions of women across the world come together to recognize the progress made in women's rights and to call attention to the work that still needs to be done. This year, Apéro is celebrating International Women's Day by highlighting some of its history and the ways we can support women.

What is International Women's Day?

International Women's Day is marked annually on March 8th and is a day that is dedicated to honouring the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day has been celebrated since the early 1900s, and it was officially recognized as an international holiday by the United Nations in 1975.

This day is a great opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the progress that women have made throughout history. It is also a chance to recognise the struggles that women are still facing and to take a stand for gender equality.

History of International Women's Day

The history of International Women's Day is intertwined with the history of the struggle for women's rights. This day was first celebrated in the early 1900s, when women in the United States and Europe began organising large rallies and marches to protest for better working conditions and equal rights.

The first National Women's Day was celebrated in the United States in 1909 and the first International Women's Day was celebrated in 1911. The holiday was officially recognized as an international holiday by the United Nations in 1975.

Since then, International Women's Day has become a global day of celebration. Every year, millions of women around the world participate in activities to mark the day and to celebrate the progress that has been made in women's rights.
